AppDirect has acquired vCom in a $100m-plus lifecycle deal
AppDirect has closed the acquisition of vCom Solutions in a deal worth more than $100 million, expanding its business-to-business commerce platform into network and mobility lifecycle management.
The transaction adds vCom's software platform, Buyers' Club programme and managed services to AppDirect's portfolio. AppDirect plans to integrate these products into its unified lifecycle management platform.
San Francisco-based AppDirect has positioned itself as an "everything store" for business technology sold through advisors. It already aggregates software, infrastructure, hardware, cloud and energy products for resale.
vCom specialises in lifecycle management for network and mobile services. Its tools track spending, contracts and services for corporate IT and finance teams.
The parties did not disclose an exact valuation. They said the deal value is above $100 million.
Platform integration
AppDirect said vCom's platform will sit inside its recently launched unified lifecycle management product. Customers will gain a single interface for a wider range of technology categories.
vCom shifted to a channel-first model in recent years. It did this by spinning out its direct sales team as independent advisors. Those advisors will now operate under a separate brand that is not part of AppDirect.
AppDirect said the acquisition will allow technology advisors on its network to offer network and mobility lifecycle management alongside existing services. The company said this will come through one converged platform.
Nicolas Desmarais, Chief Executive and Chairman of AppDirect, said the combination broadens the scope of the firm's procurement tools.
"vCom is a powerful platform that improves visibility and control over mobility and network infrastructure, providing the tools for businesses to save time, money and make informed decisions about their technology. Integrating vCom's lifecycle management platform, Buyers' Club network, and mobile solutions into the AppDirect procurement suite will expand our customers' ability to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of all of their technology in one single platform," said Nicolas Desmarais, CEO and chairman of AppDirect.
"From software and infrastructure to hardware, energy, and now network and mobile, we're delivering on our vision to provide the everything store for business through our advisor community."
AppDirect said it works with more than 14,000 technology advisors worldwide. These advisors use its platform to source and manage services for business clients.
Advisor economics
The company said the deal strengthens its offer to that partner community. It will open access to vCom's wholesale Buyers' Club, which aggregates purchasing of telecoms and related services.
AppDirect said this structure gives advisors a larger menu of network and mobility products. It also gives them extra commission-earning opportunities on existing lines of business.
vCom and its Buyers' Club will become part of the standard catalogue available inside AppDirect. Advisors will see them alongside existing software, cloud, hardware, energy and services listings.
Gary Storm, Chief Executive of vCom, said the combination aligns with the firm's long-standing product vision.
"Joining forces with AppDirect will allow us to accelerate our shared vision of a single platform and destination for IT to manage their technology. Just as Salesforce provides the tools for sales to manage the lifecycle of a customer and Workday provides the tools for HR to manage the lifecycle of an employee, AppDirect and vCom together provide the tools for IT to manage the lifecycle of their technology spend," said Gary Storm, CEO at vCom.
"Together, we'll continue delivering the same great customer service and support, and create exciting new revenue opportunities for advisors."
Active dealmaking
The vCom transaction is AppDirect's sixth acquisition announcement since November 2024. The company has stepped up mergers and acquisitions in cloud and IT commerce infrastructure.
Earlier deals included the purchase of Tackle.io. Tackle.io runs a cloud go-to-market platform that supports more than $20 billion in cloud marketplace transactions.
AppDirect has also bought businesses in hardware and energy procurement in the US and Canada. It has added platforms for managed services and marketplace tools in recent transactions.
The company said this sequence of acquisitions builds a broader commerce system for advisors that operate between technology vendors and end customers.
AppDirect said it intends to keep expanding its "everything store for business" strategy through its network of advisors after the vCom deal closes.
