Avalara has been named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide E-Invoicing Compliance Solutions 2026 Vendor Assessment, which covers the global market for e-invoicing compliance software.

The assessment cited Avalara's use of a harmonised UBL model and a single global API, saying this allows customers to integrate once and activate countries through configuration. It also highlighted the company's broad mandate footprint and said customers reported confidence in its compliance expertise.

The recognition comes as businesses face a growing number of government e-invoicing rules across multiple jurisdictions. Companies operating across borders are under pressure to meet differing requirements for invoice clearance, continuous transaction controls, and post-audit reporting, often across several finance and ERP systems.

Avalara said its E-Invoicing and Live Reporting product is designed to let businesses activate country mandates without repeated reimplementation. Built around a single global API and a harmonised data model, the software supports clearance and continuous transaction control regimes, post-audit systems, and hybrid e-reporting approaches through country-specific workflows.

The product also connects with ERP and accounting software, as well as eCommerce and billing systems. Avalara has added AI-based functions including error interpretation through Avi Insights, natural-language document search, and intelligent document processing.

Market pressure

E-invoicing has become a growing priority for finance and tax teams as authorities seek more direct access to transaction data and faster reporting. That shift has increased demand for software that can handle local compliance rules without requiring companies to build separate systems for each country.

Against that backdrop, analyst assessments such as IDC MarketScape are closely watched by software buyers comparing providers on geographic reach, technical approach, and customer references. The model is intended to compare suppliers' offerings, strategies, and market position within a defined segment.

Jayme Fishman, Chief Strategy and Product Officer at Avalara, said the ranking reflected customer confidence in the company's approach to the sector.

"To us, being recognised as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape for Worldwide E-Invoicing Compliance Solutions reflects the trust our customers place in us to navigate one of the most complex and fast-moving compliance landscapes in the world," said Jayme Fishman, Chief Strategy and Product Officer at Avalara. "As governments continue to accelerate e-invoicing mandates across every region, we're committed to making it faster and easier for businesses to stay compliant everywhere, without the burden of managing country-by-country solutions."

Analyst view

The IDC MarketScape commentary highlighted a technical model based on a single integration layer and country activation through configuration. It also pointed to the breadth of Avalara's mandate support and customer feedback on the depth of its compliance expertise.

Kevin Permenter, Research Director, Financial Applications at IDC, said that approach addresses pressures facing finance and IT teams responding to fast-changing rules in multiple markets.

"The global e-invoicing mandate landscape is expanding at a pace that challenges even the most well-resourced finance and IT teams," said Kevin Permenter, Research Director, Financial Applications at IDC. "Avalara's ability to offer a single global API with country-specific activation through configuration addresses one of the core pain points we see across midmarket and enterprise buyers. Combined with predictable, transaction-based pricing and a proven compliance track record, Avalara demonstrates the hallmarks of a vendor well-positioned to scale alongside the mandates its customers face."

Avalara has built its business around tax and compliance software for companies managing indirect tax and regulatory reporting obligations. It says it processes more than 54 billion transactions each year and supports millions of businesses worldwide.

Its broader product portfolio includes tax calculation, return filing, and exemption certificate management, with AI used across parts of the platform. In e-invoicing, Avalara is positioning that wider compliance background as a differentiator as customers look for suppliers that can support multiple regulatory workflows through a single connection.

The IDC MarketScape assessment adds to the competitive signalling in a market shaped by national digital tax reforms and rising compliance costs for multinational businesses. The report said: "Avalara supports a wide mandate footprint with an ambitious expansion road map, and customers expressed confidence in its depth of compliance expertise."
