Avalara has received a 2026 Top Rated Award from TrustRadius for tax compliance software, placing it among the highest-rated products in its category on the review platform.

TrustRadius gave Avalara a trScore of 8.5 out of 10 in the tax compliance software category, based on verified customer reviews. The awards are determined by user feedback and satisfaction ratings, rather than analyst assessment or paid placement.

The recognition comes as tax compliance software providers face rising demand from businesses dealing with changing rules across multiple jurisdictions. Companies operating across states, countries, and sales channels are under pressure to manage tax calculations, filings, and related documentation with fewer manual processes.

The award reflects feedback from nearly 1,000 verified product reviews. Customers on TrustRadius cited automation of tax calculations, support for compliance across different markets, and integration with other business systems as key reasons for their positive ratings.

Customer reviews

Among the published reviews, one customer said the product helped the business shift attention away from manual sales tax work. Another said the software adapted as the company entered new markets or expanded product lines, reducing the need to add specialist tax staff.

A further reviewer said the system helped identify tax issues that had previously gone undetected and reduced the risk of discovering them during an audit. The comments suggest users are evaluating software not only on its ability to handle routine compliance tasks, but also on whether it can keep pace with expansion into new regions and product categories.

Businesses have increasingly turned to tax automation tools as compliance obligations become harder to track internally. The challenge is particularly acute for companies selling in several jurisdictions, where rates, exemptions, and filing rules can vary widely and change frequently.

Avalara has built its business around that need, offering software for tax calculation, return filing, and exemption certificate management. It says it processes more than 54 billion transactions a year and supports millions of businesses worldwide.

Market position

The TrustRadius award adds a customer review measure to Avalara's standing in the tax compliance market. While software suppliers often promote analyst rankings and product benchmarks, user review platforms have become an increasingly visible part of purchasing decisions, especially for finance and operations teams seeking evidence from existing users.

The emphasis on verified reviews is central to the TrustRadius model. Here, the platform's methodology ties the award to customer sentiment expressed by professionals using the product in day-to-day operations.

Danny Fields, Chief Technology and Customer Operations Officer at Avalara, said the recognition mattered because of its source. "As tax compliance grows more complex for businesses operating across states, countries, and channels, customer trust is one of the most important measures of our success," Fields said.

He added: "This recognition from TrustRadius is especially meaningful because it comes directly from the customers who rely on Avalara every day to help automate compliance, reduce risk, and focus on growing their businesses."

Avalara has operated in the tax and compliance software market for more than two decades. It says its systems are built on a large library of tax content and integrations developed over that time.

That scale matters in a market where customers often need a product to work across accounting, eCommerce, and enterprise resource planning systems while also keeping up with regulatory change. For multinational and multi-channel businesses, the cost of errors can extend beyond administrative time to penalties, audit exposure, and delayed expansion into new territories.

The TrustRadius result indicates that Avalara's user base continues to rate the product strongly against those needs. With an 8.5 score in the category and a large base of verified feedback, the award gives the company a customer-led endorsement in a crowded software segment.
