BDO Canada has partnered with Workday, becoming a Workday Sales and Services Partner in Canada.

The tie-up focuses on HR, finance and planning services for organisations looking to modernise core business systems. BDO will combine its advisory services and Human Resources Technology & Transformation practice with Workday's software across those functions.

The move comes as many Canadian businesses continue to digitise operations but have yet to integrate those tools across the wider organisation. BDO cited industry data showing that while cloud and artificial intelligence tools are gaining ground, only a small share of Canadian businesses have fully integrated digital tools across their operations.

Under the arrangement, clients will be able to buy advisory, implementation and optimisation services tied to Workday Human Capital Management, Financial Management and Adaptive Planning. The aim is to help businesses connect workforce, finance and planning data more closely.

BDO's role will span strategy and roadmap development through to implementation, optimisation and ongoing advisory services. The work will draw on specialists in HR, finance, technology and broader advisory functions.

Market push

The partnership also expands BDO's network of technology alliances, as professional services firms seek to build consulting revenues around major software platforms. For Workday, the agreement broadens its services reach in Canada through a domestic advisory firm with established client relationships.

Canadian organisations are under pressure to update internal systems while managing shifting workforce expectations and more complex operating conditions. Demand has also risen for better internal data and planning tools as companies seek to improve decision-making in an uncertain market.

That backdrop has helped drive spending on software and consulting in finance and HR, particularly where companies are replacing fragmented legacy systems. Partners such as BDO typically help customers map business processes, manage deployment and adapt systems after launch.

Jesaiah Mills, Partner, HR Technology and Transformation, BDO Canada, outlined the firm's view of client demand.

"Our clients are looking for solutions that bring together leading technology and trusted advisory expertise to help them achieve meaningful transformation," said Jesaiah Mills, Partner, HR Technology and Transformation, BDO Canada. "Through our partnership with Workday, we're helping organizations modernize with confidence, accelerate digital transformation and achieve stronger business outcomes."

Canadian investment

Workday linked the partnership to its broader expansion in the country, saying the agreement builds on a Canadian investment programme worth USD $1 billion over five years.

That spending highlights the importance of Canada as a market for software suppliers targeting large and mid-sized employers reviewing back-office systems. HR, finance and planning software has become a key battleground as businesses seek more consistent reporting and a clearer view of staffing and budgets.

Edward Charter described the role BDO would play in that effort.

"BDO will help organizations experience the full benefits of Workday's enterprise AI platform, giving Canadian customers a clear path from strategy to execution," said Edward Charter, Country Manager, Workday Canada. "This partnership builds on our $1 billion, five-year investment in the Canadian market and our commitment to helping organizations here modernize HR, finance and planning with confidence."

For BDO, the agreement offers another route to deepen work with clients beyond traditional accounting and tax services, especially in transformation projects that often span multiple departments. For Workday, it creates another channel into organisations seeking both software and external guidance as they rethink how HR and finance teams operate.

The partnership is focused on supporting organisations from early planning through to ongoing optimisation across Workday Human Capital Management, Financial Management and Adaptive Planning.
